International WEB Services Team Leader (IWSTL)

Context:

  • The ILT/IC are responsible for WEC International policies eg communications, websites, social media etc.

  • The DID/ILT Comms Director is responsible for key messaging.

  • The DIITM is responsible for overseeing the IT systems of WEC International.

  • The IWSTL is a dual role. They should liaise with:

o The DIITM in ensuring that the web provision of WI is secure and robust. (Technical)
o The DID/ILT Comms Dir in ensuring that the WI Int.website is effective for recruitment, strengthening church/mission relationships and reaching our church planting goals. (Comms)

Purpose of role:

  • To facilitate WEC's interfacing with the public via the Internet.

  • To support the International WEB Services Team (IWST)

  • To ensure that all WEC WEB sites1 comply with agreed norms, design themes, security standards and quality control.

Scope of role:

  • In normal circumstances, working with a full IWST, the role should be able to be fulfilled in 1day/week.

  • There are times when more time will be needed eg Intercon, site development projects etc.

  • Flexibility is required.

Appointment:

  • The IWSTL is a member of the IITM.

  • The appointment process is overseen by the DIITM and the appointment is ratified by the members of the Int. IT Steering Group.

Accountability:

  • To the Director of International IT Ministry via ongoing activity via MS Teams.

  • To local Branch Leader for member care via annual reviews.

  • Due to the dual aspects of the role the IWSTL, the DIITM and the DID/ILT Comms Dir should meet, no less than annually, to agree goals and activities for the coming year regarding the WI International website.

Required Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with WEB design standards & principles, particularly WordPress as the preferred WEC wide Content Management System (CMS).

  • Understanding of web development and “search engine optimization;” particularly finding the right key- words and knowing how to use them.

  • Ability to analyse web site statistics, to monitor the interest and impact of our websites.

  • Familiarity with O365E.

Required skills:

  • Leadership – capacity to manage a diverse team according to the vision and values of WEC International. Team builder, also one who appreciates WEC decision-making and fellowship.

  • WEB site development - a broad understanding in the use of internet in marketing and communication.

  • This role would suit a dynamic, self-motivated individual with creative gift and experience and skills in graphic design and/or web site design and maintenance; good writing skills; HTML editing, site development, and site management.

Responsibilities:

1) Strategy:

a) Develop a strategy to ensure that WEC International’s web presence is effective, integrated and secure.

2)  Team Management:

    1. a)  Plan, delegate and manage the IWST activities.

    2. b)  Support the IWST through role descriptions and annual reviews.

    3. c)  Ensure IWST is up-to-date with industry standards eg HTML language, web tool developments, CMS (WordPress) etc and incorporate these into WEC websites.

3)  WEC website management:

    1. a)  Maintain an up to date list of all WEC websites, domain names, owner/contact details etc.

    2. b)  The IWSTL should have access to all WEC websites via passwords, contact details etc. including WEC social

      media accounts so that access can be gained in the event of emergency. (This list should be shared with the

      International Crisis and Security Management Consultant and the ILT.)

    3. c)  Be the primary point of contact for the international WEC website < wec-int.org >

4)  Training & Development:

    1. a)  Advise Branches, Ministries and Members on the development of WEB sites.

    2. b)  Maintain a Webmaster's forum within MS Teams to facilitate (i) support on a user-to-user basis and (ii) on-

      line training/best practices.

    3. c)  Support website owners to follow best practices.

5)  Compliance:

    1. a)  Monitor WEC’s web presence to ensure that the sites are effective, up to date and integrated.

    2. b)  Liaise closely with the DID/ILT Communications Director to ensure that any ‘key messaging’ from the ILT is

      reflected in websites.

    3. c)  Ensure that all web content is reviewed to maintain quality and security.

    4. d)  Ensure domain name selection follows any agreed standards or specific needs.

Review

The role description should be reviewed after 12 months of initial appointment.

¹ Qu: What is a WEC website? A website that represents a WEC entity eg wec-uk.org or that supplements a WEC ministry. Eg 7questions.org. The site may or may not make direct reference to WEC and it may or may not reside on the WEC WEB server (worldwideInternetServices.net)
